Lost your KCSE or KCPE Certificate? KNEC introduces online download service
The e-Certificate platform enables former national examination candidates to securely access, download, and verify their certificates online

Candidates who sat the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations can now conveniently download digital copies of their certificates online following the launch of a new platform by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
The newly introduced e-Certificate platform enables former national examination candidates to securely access, download, and verify their certificates online, marking a major shift from the traditional system where original hard-copy certificates were delivered only to schools.
The digital service is expected to benefit thousands of former students who have lost their KCSE or KCPE certificates or require quick access to their academic credentials for employment, further studies, or other official purposes.
For a one-time fee of KSh1,200, candidates who sat their national examinations between 1989 and 2025 can obtain a verifiable digital certificate after completing identity verification and payment.

The platform also allows employers, universities, and other institutions to instantly verify the authenticity of candidates' academic credentials, helping reduce cases of certificate forgery and fraudulent academic qualifications.
To access the service, applicants are required to register on the KNEC E-Certificate Platform using a valid email address, create a profile using their National Identity Card details, and provide their full examination index number together with the year they sat the examination.
Once the submitted information has been successfully verified, applicants will be prompted to pay a certificate generation fee of KSh1,200, exclusive of VAT and applicable eCitizen transaction charges, through the available payment options.
After payment is confirmed, the digital certificate is generated and made available for download in Portable Document Format (PDF).
According to KNEC, the new system has been developed to strengthen the security and integrity of academic credentials by leveraging blockchain technology and digital identity verification. The platform is also expected to streamline certificate verification, curb fraud, and significantly reduce the time required to authenticate examination credentials.
