Construction of the Nyeri Waqf Building in Majengo Estate, Nyeri Town, has regained momentum after remaining stalled for nearly three years due to financial constraints, bringing renewed hope to the Muslim community and project supporters who have long awaited its completion.

The ambitious project, which was launched in 2019, was initially expected to take approximately two years to complete. However, progress slowed and eventually halted as funding challenges made it difficult for the construction committee to sustain the works.

Following fresh support from well-wishers and donors, construction activities have now resumed, with the project entering a critical stage involving fabrication and installation of metal doors and windows.

According to the construction committee, metal works are currently underway, with welders and fabricators working on the production of steel doors and windows that will be fitted throughout the building. The committee has identified a requirement of 84 metal doors and 142 metal windows for the entire structure.

Each metal door is estimated to cost Sh18,000, while each metal window costs Sh12,000. The committee says the current phase is vital because installation of the doors and windows will pave the way for the next stage of construction, including internal and external finishing works.

Members of the construction committee have expressed optimism that the renewed momentum will help accelerate progress after years of uncertainty.

“This project remained inactive for a long period because of insufficient funds, but AlhamduliLlah, work has resumed and we are now focusing on completing the metal works section. We are appealing to Muslims and well-wishers to continue supporting us so that the building can be completed without further delays,” said Abdallah Ndope, the chairman of the construction committee.

He emphasized that despite the progress made so far, significant financial resources are still required to complete the remaining phases of the project. Funding for the project has relied heavily on donations from individuals, families, organizations and charitable institutions.

Developed by the Islamic Da’wah Group (IDG) in conjunction with Nyeri Muslim Mosque Association, the Nyeri Waqf project is expected to serve as an important community asset supporting various religious, social and development initiatives while strengthening the presence of Islamic institutions within Nyeri County.

Contributions towards construction materials, labour costs and finishing works can be made through MPESA Paybill number 707511 Account Nyeri Wakf
