Nairobi Schools raise over Sh1 million for Gaza medical support

In a show of solidarity with Palestinians, several schools in Nairobi have raised more than Sh1 million to support medical aid efforts for the people of Gaza,

The funds were raised in the lead-up to Al Aqsa Day, held on May 31, an event aimed at raising awareness about the dangers facing the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, occupied Palestine which has in recent times been facing existential threats from extremist Jews.

The school-based initiative, organized by Voice for Palestine (VFP), featured the Free Palestine Competition as part of the Gaza Medical Aid Fundraising Campaign.

Among the top contributors was Al Risalah Academy, which raised Sh751,000. Kamaria Academy contributed Sh129,000, while Manarat International School and Nawiri Academy raised Sh120,000 and Sh100,000 respectively.

In a message of appreciation, Voice for Palestine Chairman Ahmed Sharrif commended the participating schools for their efforts.

“Your efforts have helped raise awareness, strengthen unity within our community, and contribute towards much-needed medical aid for the people of Gaza,” said Sharrif.

“May Allah abundantly bless your schools, your staff, your students, and your families. May He place barakah in your institutions, increase your beneficial knowledge, reward your generosity, and raise from among your students future leaders who will serve the Ummah with sincerity and excellence,” he added.

In recognition of their contributions, the schools received trophies and other awards during the Al Aqsa Day event.

The held at Nairobi Muslim Academy in South C, raised more than Sh1.5 million for medical support initiatives in Gaza. The Palestinian-themed event featured food stalls, children entertainment, performance by school children which included speeches, anasheed, plays, and creative performances which served as a powerful reminder for the young generation for their immense love and concern for their brothers and sisters in Palestine.

Through the Voice for Palestine initiative, more than 1,000 surgeries and other medical and humanitarian interventions have been supported in Gaza.

Since 2023, Voice for Palestine has coordinated humanitarian and medical assistance for Gaza through partner organizations operating in the enclave, including Al Imdaad Foundation, Islamic Relief, Humaniti, and Al Khair Foundation.

Voices for Palestine is a major solidarity movement comprising various Muslim organizations dedicated to advocating for Palestinian human rights and raising humanitarian aid for Gaza.

The organizations include the Jamia Mosque Committee, National, National Muslim Leaders Forum (NAMLEF), Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM), Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK), Masjid Al-Ameen, Parklands Mosque, Adams Mosque, Masjid Rahma (Hurlingham), Maahad Da’wah Organization, Park Road Mosque, and the Kenya Association of Muslim Medical Practitioners (KAMMP), among others.
