Former Western Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud is now the new Nairobi Regional Police Commander.

The police boss has officially taken over after swapping positions with his Nairobi counterpart, George Seda, following new changes in the police leadership.

He returns to Nairobi, where he had previously served as the Kabete Sub-County Police Commander before he was promoted and moved to Machakos as the County Police Commander. He was later transferred to West Pokot and subsequently to the Western Region as the Regional Commander.

The changes were announced last Friday evening by Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat, who described the mini-reshuffle as routine and focused on strengthening operations.

“The changes are normal and intended to enhance performance in the regions,” he said.

During a handover meeting held on Wednesday, March 13, where he was introduced to Nairobi’s 12 Sub-County Police Commanders (OCPDs), the new police boss said he would involve all stakeholders in addressing security challenges facing the city.

The changes come after the Director of Criminal Investigations, Mohamed Amin, announced high-level appointments in the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

In the appointments, Francis Ndiema, who served as Director of Personnel, takes over as the new Director of the Investigations Bureau, replacing Abdallah Komesha, who has retired after more than 30 years of service.

Daniel Kandie, who was previously the head of investigations in Mombasa, takes over as the Nairobi Regional Criminal Investigations Officer (RCIO), replacing Benson Kasyoki, who moves to Mombasa.

Other key appointments saw Sospeter Munyi moved from Commandant of the National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA) to Director of Forensics, while Jillo Ibrahim has moved from Chief of the National Central Bureau (NCB) to Commandant of the National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA).

These changes affect strategic DCI departments, including investigations, forensics, personnel, and training, which are essential to the Directorate’s operational effectiveness.

“The changes are strategic and aimed at reinforcing key departments to ensure effective law enforcement nationwide,” Mohamed stated.
