AEDT, Mount Kenya University forge partnership to advance staff development
The partnership will facilitate interest-free study loan program, making quality higher education more accessible and affordable for eligible university employees.

Africa Education and Development Trust (AEDT) and Mount Kenya University (MKU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Staff Development Scheme aimed at expanding access to higher education and professional development opportunities for university staff.
The partnership will facilitate an interest-free education financing scheme, providing eligible staff members greater opportunities to further their studies, strengthen their professional skills, and advance their careers.
The MoU was signed during a ceremony at Mount Kenya University by Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi, Vice-Chancellor of MKU, and Irshad Ibrahim, Trustee of AEDT. The ceremony was witnessed by Prof. Peter Wanderi, Principal, Corporate Services, Marketing, Communication and Alumni Relations, and Umar Hussein, Chief Executive Officer of AEDT, together with senior officials from both institutions.
Under the MoU, AEDT will implement the interest-free study loan program, making quality higher education more accessible and affordable for eligible university employees. The initiative is expected to strengthen staff capacity, support professional growth, and enhance institutional performance.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, the leadership of both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to advancing staff development through strategic collaboration, emphasizing that investing in employees is fundamental to building a highly skilled workforce and supporting the University's long-term strategic goals.
“The partnership reflects the shared commitment of AEDT and MKU to investing in human capital by enabling staff to pursue further studies, enhance their professional competencies, and advance their careers through affordable education financing,” the two institutions said in a joint statement issued on Wednesday.
“The partnership marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between AEDT and Mount Kenya University, reinforcing their shared commitment to expanding educational opportunities, strengthening human capital, and contributing to sustainable national development,” added the statement.
Founded in 2011, AEDT is dedicated to uplifting communities through innovative education financing solutions. The organisation has pioneered an interest-free study loan model that supports students pursuing postgraduate, undergraduate, and diploma programmes, helping improve access to quality higher education across the country.
